BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Our June elections select the executive officers and governing board of the association. Over the years, many chiropractors have served in these capacities and we are grateful for their years of dedication to the ideals and principles of the association.


CURRENT TERM OFFICERS (Through June 2024)

PRESIDENT

DR. DEAN SHIVVERS grew up in a small town near Des Moines, Iowa. He received his Doctorate degree from Southern California University of Health Sciences in Los Angeles in 2013. While working his way through graduate school, Dr. Dean was also the president of the Gonstead Club, which promotes a specific chiropractic technique that he utilizes in the treatment of patients. He has been actively practicing in Hawaii with multiple Oahu offices and has served as Oahu Island Director and Vice President.   

 

VICE PRESIDENT 


DR. LILY DEANE grew up in San Jose, California where she later attended the University of California Santa Barbara.  She graduated with a bachelor's in economics and later went on to get her Doctorate in Chiropractic from the Southern California University of Health Sciences.  She currently practices at Turning Point chiropractic in Kaimuki and specializes in pregnancies, infants, and young children.  In her spare time, she loves to teach her son, Deklen, how to speak Vietnamese and explore new eateries with her husband, Dr. Scott Deane DC.

 

SECRETARY


DR. JULIA GOODMAN grew up in Ventura, California where she attended California State University Channel Islands and graduated with a Bachelors in Psychology. She furthered her education by getting her Doctorate of Chiropractic at Southern California University of Health Sciences after a chiropractor helped her heal from her chronic headaches. Dr. Julia is certified in the Webster Pregnancy Technique and is a DONA trained doula. She enjoys helping families build better health together through regular chiropractic care.


TREASURER

 

DR. SCOTT DEANE graduated with his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Southern California University of Health Sciences and is currently practicing with his wife on Oahu.  He spent his undergraduate time in Colorado and received bachelors degrees from Colorado State University in finance and psychology.  He currently practices at Turning Point Chiropractic and incorporates many techniques including diversified, Gonstead McKenzie, FMT, activator, and others.  He was born in Maui and grew up in Kihei but found his way back to the island in 2019 where he and his wife are raising their son. 


BOARD MEMBERS (June 2023 through June 2024)

Because Hawaii is an island state with doctors practicing on 5 different islands, our Board is made up of representatives from each major island to insure that everyone's interests are served. We communicate primarily through regular digital teleconferenced Board meetings, phone, fax & e-mails.


HAWAII ISLAND DIRECTOR


DR. ROBERT KLEIN graduated National College of Chiropractic in 1978. He taught at that school and practiced part-time until 1980, when he moved to Hilo. He has continually provided care to the community for 40 years and now runs a multi-doctor office with Dr. Rachel Klein and Dr. John Kim. Dr. Klein holds special certifications in Chiropractic Orthopedics, Applied Kinesiology, Impairment Rating and the Graston Technique. He has taught numerous post-graduate seminars in Hawaii, served 12 years on the State Board of Chiropractic and as examiner for the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. He has held many offices in chiropractic associations at county, state and national levels. Dr. Klein believes that thorough examination and accurate diagnosis are the keys to finding the best form of treatment. With a wide variety of natural methods available, the greatest success depends on matching the type of care to the needs of each individual.

 

KAUAI ISLAND DIRECTOR

DR. KYLE S. UEUNTEN has been practicing on the island of Kauai since 2017, after graduating from Palmer College of Chiropractic West, in San Jose, CA. His primary practice is in Lihue, Kauai, at the Lihue Chiropractic Center. Dr. Ueunten also practices in the office of his wife, Dr. Amada Guzman, DC, who runs Princeville Chiropractic, in Princeville, Kauai. Dr. Kyle practices utilizing multiple Chiropractic techniques including: Applied Kinesiology, Diversified Technique, Neuro Emotional Technique, Activator and Extremity Adjusting. Dr. Ueunten began serving as the HSCA Kauai Island Director mid-year 2020. He also is a member of the International College of Applied Kinesiology, and the American Chiropractic Association.

 

MAUI, MOLOKAI & LANAI ISLAND DIRECTOR


DR. MARK KEKOA ROCCO was born and raised in Maui. He graduated from Maui High School and became a massage therapist, physical therapist, and personal trainer before graduating from Life West Chiropractic College West in California with his Doctorate Degree. He served the Colorado community for twelve years before returning to Maui as a Provider in Hawaii Holistic Health Network. His focus is structural Holistic Treatments for physical, chemical, and emotional stressors. Doctor Rocco has treated thousands of patients including: athletes from the Olympic Training Team, na/ Seniors, pregnant women, and babies. In his spare time Doctor Rocco loves to help many in the community by volunteering his services in things such as: Relay for Life, Underground Railroad, Wounded Warriors, and Veterans. When he is not working, he enjoys writing a book and teaching his wife how to ski, and his son how to canoe paddle and Kayak. Doctor Rocco’s passion is to teach others how to live a healthier life, knowing you can’t base your health on how you look and feel, as he knows that no Doctor has X-ray vision.

 

OAHU ISLAND DIRECTOR

DR. JOE LEONARDI has been in clinical practice for more than twenty-five years.  He is the author of several books on weight loss, fitness, and health. He has a B.S. from University of the State of New York and his Doctor of Chiropractic from New York Chiropractic College. His proudest achievement is that of being a veteran of the United States Navy. He has been an adjunct faculty educator at College Misericordia, Luzerne County Community College and Allied Medical and Technical careers, teaching Anatomy, Physiology, Medical Terminology, Pathophysiology, and Healthcare Data Systems. Additionally, he has mentored interns in many healthcare disciplines including Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, Nursing and Physician Assistant students. He has acted as the team chiropractor for the Arena Football League 2’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers, the semi-professional football teams Scranton Eagles and NEPA Miners, women’s roller derby Coal City Rollers and has provided Chiropractic care at powerlifting and strongman events. As well as treating these diverse athletes, he has also trained quite a few. Dr. Leonardi has authored many articles and made numerous television, radio and internet appearances to discuss the topics of fitness, wellness, obesity, childhood obesity and how childhood obesity relates to bullying and has been a contributor to the international e-zines Naturally Savvy and Carb Smart.


HSCA  ADMINISTRATOR

 

JANET JORDAN, CAE, began her career in association management in 1989 and earned her Certified Association Executive designation in 2004. She opened her own association management company in 1996 and provides full service management and administrative support to various non-profit organizations. Janet first became affiliated with chiropractic organizations when she served for seven years as Executive Director of the South Carolina Chiropractic Association. She served twelve years as Executive Director of the Congress of Chiropractic State Associations and currently provides administrative support for the CCGPP Clinical Compass (formerly known as the Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters (CCCPP) and the Hawaii State Chiropractic Association. Janet is a member of the American Society of Association Executives and the South Carolina Society of Association Executives. She was named 2023 Executive of the Year by SCSAE Janet’s latest entrepreneurial adventure is launching Two Gals and a Fork Food Tours with a friend in 2014 after being inspired in Seattle while attending a Clinical Compass meeting. Janet and her husband Steve live on the shores of Lake Murray in Irmo, SC, with their beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Tana and Rosie. When not boating on the lake, they enjoy vacationing in Lake Lure, NC, and St. Thomas, US Virgin islands.
