OFFICERS

Our June elections select the executive officers and governing board of the association.  Over the years, many chiropractors have served in these capacities and we are grateful for their years of dedication to the ideals and principles of the association.

Dr. Joseph Morelli, DC, FICC, graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1978 and has been in active practice for 36 years here in Hawaii. He has served the HSCA as President, Immediate Past President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Oahu Island Director. Dr. Morelli was named HSCA Chiropractor of the Year in 2009. Nationally, Dr. Morelli currently serves on the Governing Board of the American Chiropractic Association, as Governor of District 7, representing: Hawaii, California, Nevada, & the US Pacific: American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Dr. Jesse Broderson, DC, is a Life West Chiropractic College graduate. Being able to return to his hometown and purchase his childhood Chiropractor's practice is nothing short of special. He practices in a multi-discipline office with his wife, Dr. Shannon Hogan

Dr. Gary Ferguson, DC, is serving a sixth consecutive term as Treasurer. He received his chiropractic degree from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minnesota after an undergraduate degree from Chaminade University in Hawaii. He has been in practice over 25 years. Dr. Ferguson provides many additional services in support of the HSCA that go beyond his function as our treasurer.

Because Hawaii is an island state with doctors practicing on 5 different islands, our Board is made up of representatives from each major island to insure that everyone's interests are served. We communicate primarily through regular digital teleconferenced Board meetings, phone, fax & e-mails.

Dr. Albert Valenzuela, DC, aka: Dr. "V", recently returned from the mainland back to practice on the Big Island. From 1985 to 2008 he owned and operated Kona Chiropractic Clinic in Kailua-Kona. He now works with Dr. Albert Police, DC (son of former Kona Chiropractor Dr. Rhody Edwards).

He graduates from Palmer Chiropractic College-West in 1983. He has been politically active with the HSCA for over the last 10 years, holding the office of West Hawaii Island Director multiple times. He is happily married to his wife Kelly, and together have 7 children.

Dr. Alice Holm Ogawa, DC, was born and raised in Denmark, where she earned her undergraduate degree before coming to the United States.  She graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 1981. She has been in practice for over 30 years.  Dr Alice Holm Ogawa has a joint practice with her husband Dr Ryoichi Ogawa in Kapaa, on the Island of Kauai. She has served as Kauai Island Director several times over her years in practice.

Dr. James Pleiss, DC, DABCO, served two and a half terms as President, then served the board as Immediate Past President and again served an additional two terms as President through 2007. He is credited with strengthening the functions of the board and increasing association memberships. He is currently the Maui, Molokai  & Lanai Island Director. He continues in an active consulting practice on the island of Maui.

Dr. Gary Saito, DC, is in his 29th year of practice and has been the association's Executive Director for 17 of the last 19 years.  He is a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic-West.  His duties have ranged from organizing many of the activities of the HSCA to keeping a close eye on the legislature.  He completed serving his seventh consecutive year as the association's president, the longest running term in our association history.
